A Solid Fuel
Mini Power Station is a source of power, in the form of electricity, obtained
by using wastes such as wood-chips, saw-dust, rice husk, palm waste to
name a few, as boiler flue, to supply steam to a turbine coupled to a
generator.
Its operational success depends on there being adequate supplies of waste fuel available for this purpose.
The advantages are:
- It is simple to construct and operate, and has low maintenance costs.
- Fuel costs is virtually nil as it would otherwise be incinerated, costing money for disposal and environmental pollution.
- It offers a cheap source of power for remote communities.
- Simplicity ensures reliability and long life expectation.
The main items of a Solid Fuel Mini Power Station is made up of the
following main equipment:
- Waste fired boiler complete with fans, economiser, chimney, dust-collector, water treatment plant and fuel conveying system.
- Turbine generator including condenser for condensing turbine (if non-condensing or back pressure turbine installed, no condenser required), electrical switchgear and control panels.
